Pen Pals, Storefronts, and Women's Day

March can be a dull month. We're OVER winter, and feeling a bit ehhhh. But March is also a big stretch of time in the classroom, and so many wonderful things are happening.
*
Our class is busy learning about world currencies, and exchanging goods and services. It reminds me of being young and always playing "store" with my sister. We would "sell" our stuffies and use Monopoly money. Here, the students make advertisements and posters to represent their stall {"store" to my Australian co-teacher; I love international teaching for all of the different interpretations!} where they will sell the goods, {which they have created themselves}, to their classmates to make a profit.

My project with the pen pal exchange is also rolling along! We are finally ready to send our letters to America.

{Designing her own "Girls and Boys' Pencil Store" advertisement. Being so hands-on gets the students to take ownership and pride in what they are selling. It's a fun real-world connection.}

{Students painting and decorating hard-boiled eggs to "sell" to classmates at their store. We talked about the real time and energy that goes into making a craft, and how a price should reflect that.}

{The beautiful eggs ready to "sell"!}

{Using plastic eggs with treats inside as this group's product to "sell" at their store.}

And!!!! Our letters are finally ready to send! We had lots of questions and fun things to share with our American friends :

And who knew? Today is also Womens' Day {so I guess March isn't that bad}…
Here is a fun message Rachel and I got from Xuan, our friend in Vietnam, to celebrate Women's Day!
